Rare Novelty Solid Sterling Silver Vesta Case / Match safe. Sampson Mordan, 1890
Rare Novelty Solid Sterling Silver Vesta Case / Match safe. Sampson Mordan, 1890
A rare Sampson Mordan silver vesta case dating to London, 1890. Taking the form of a sentry box with enamel depiction of a guard. The guard in question appears to be a member of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. Note the black sporran with two white tassels which I believe is the opposite to the Seaforth Highlanders (which are easily confused with the Cameron Highlanders). With sprung hinged lid and match striker to base. Hallmarked to rim for Sampson Mordan & co. London 1890. With further matching hallmarks to the interior of the lid. A handsome and scarce vesta.
Condition
In good antique condition with expected wear. Some scratches to the surface of the enamel. The silver has not been polished. Hallmarks are clear and legible.
